Stunt driver further charged with being impaired

On July 20 at approximately 9:35 p.m., officers of the Lennox and Addington OPP were on general patrol and observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Hwy 401 eastbound in Greater Napanee.

Police initiated a traffic stop and found the driver to be showing signs of impairment.

As part of the investigation, a Roadside Screening Device was administered and the driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing. As a result of the investigation, L&A County OPP have charged a 40-year-old man of Whitby contrary to the Criminal Code with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operating a motor vehicle while over legal blood alcohol limit.

The driver was further charged with stunt driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario, and driving with liquor readily available, contrary to the Liquor Licence Act of Ontario.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on Sept. 22. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
