Napanee Stars teams fared extremely well in the Andy McGarvey Memorial Tournament held last weekend, with five of six teams making it to the playoff rounds.

  • The Atom BB squad went to overtime facing South Muskoka before being edged 3-2 in the Finals. It was their third game of the day. Down a goal, Tie Wood fired a shot from the bottom of the circle just inside the post. The guests went ahead on a screen shot from the point before Wood stole the puck at the red line, went in alone to fire a high shot over the trapper forcing overtime. Five minutes into the overtime, the visiting Bears ended it. Aiden Difazio provided quality minutes in goal. Earlier, in the semifinal, Napanee defeated the Montreal area Trois Lacs 4-1. Wood scored twice, while Mason Goodfellow and Owen Kish got singles.  Sunday morning they rolled over Clarence Rockland 4-1 in the quarters, having also beaten them 5-1 on Friday.

  • The Joyce’s Meats Atom AEs also lost in overtime 2-1 in their championship match with Ottawa West. Sophie Fraser picked up a lose puck at centre, walked in, and fired a shot high on the glove side for their only marker. Goalie Wiltshire had a solid game between the posts. They also had a win over South Muskoka 3-1 with Fraser tallying twice, and Wyatt Albright making the scoreboard, too.

  • The Peewee Calderwood Automation AE boys also were runners-up in their division final, losing 4-1 to Mount Brydges. Tristan Nissen stretched the twine for Napanee.  Jayden Holden was a frequent contributor, too. They won 5-4 over Orleans Glouchester in an earlier game in which Caleb South and Cameron Pearson added goals. Amazingly, it was tied 3-3 with 1:47 left. Holden made it 4-3 with 1:02 left, but Orleans matched them at four with 39.9 seconds left before Pearson got the winner with 31.7 seconds remaining.

  • The Napanee Country Traditions Bantam Roster Selects faced the Brampton 45’s in the Finals, falling 6-2, to earn second honours. Gavin Goodfellow scored a pair in a losing cause. He also got the lone goal in a 1-1 tie with the Kanata Bandits. A penalty filled 6-2 win over Kingston gave James Bailey an opportunity to show his skill.

  • The Novice AFW Construction Stars won their Sunday morning quarter final 7-2 over Cornwall, before losing 3-2 to South Muskoka in overtime in the semifinals. The final was a tight checking affair tied at one after one. Wesley Davey provided the offence. Zachary Wilde went five hole to make it 2-2 at the end of regulation time.  On Saturday they had defeated that same South Muskoka team 4-1 on goals by Colton Lockridge, Cooper Seaton, Keagon York and Ben Kerr. Earlier Seaton notched one in a 5-1 loss to Brockville.

  • The Bantam BB Stars tied Osgoode Richmond 2-2, but lost 4-2 to Smiths Falls in round robin games. Oronhyathe Green scored three times, while Zach Maracle added a single for the locals.
