Career Edge planning ‘warming station’ for employers, job seekers

The temperature outside is dropping, but Career Edge is doing what it can to keep the local job market hot.

Every Friday from now until March, Career Edge will be hosting a ‘warming station’ for both employers and prospective employees. Besides being able to pick up a free coffee or hot chocolate, those looking for work and those looking to fill a vacancy can familiarize themselves with Career Edge services.

Katy Mitchell, an employment services co-ordinator  for both the Napanee and Picton Career Edge offices, says that while the office is often one of the first stops for people seeking employment, local employers might not realize what services Career Edge can provide for them.

“We want to ensure that every employer in Lennox & Addington knows about our suite of employer services,” she says of Career Edge’s employer services. “Our mandate extends beyond assisting those looking for work. Employers can call on us to pre-screen applicants, schedule interviews and assist with job fairs. We can also arrange training subsidies for eligible candidates to assist with on-boarding costs.”

These services for employers go along with job search assistance provided to those on the lookout for a job; further, you do not have to be unemployed to access Career Edge’s services. These services include training subsidies, job search workshops and resume-writing assistance.

Besides some specific workshops that are offered on a cost-recovery basis, all services provided by Career Edge are free-of-charge to employers and job seekers.

The warming stations will take place Fridays at Career Edge’s office at 2 Dairy Ave., Unit 9, starting Dec. 1. Career Edge will also be accepting non-perishable food items for the Napanee Salvation Army Food Bank and Morningstar Mission leading up to the holidays.
