Speeding driver carrying 44 kg of pot

A traffic stop on Hwy 401 near Marysville Monday morning resulted in more than a simple speeding ticket for a Whitby man.

After stopping the westbound driver, police observed large garbage bags in the rear seat of his vehicle. In speaking with the driver, officers determined the bags were filled with marijuana. A further search led to additional bags in the trunk.

Some 44 kg were concealed in the vehicle. A 36-year-old man was arrested. He faces charges for speeding and possession with the purpose of trafficking. He was held overnight for a court appearance.
