Napanee’s Salvation Army is preparing for its busy season, where it will once again be collecting food and clothing to help families in need get through the winter months.
To help prepare for the busy season, the organization put out a call for food donations to its Community and Family Services office, located at 135 Mill St. W. They need non-perishable food donations to help them continue to support over 90 local households per month.
Over the coming weeks they will also be gearing up for their annual Kettle Campaign, which they count on to help raise some much needed funds for their programs.
“Thank you to the community for their ongoing support of our programs and services, said Major Mike Hennessy, Napanee Salvation Army officer in a release. “We are beginning to prepare for our very busy Christmas and we are so grateful for the generous support we received year after year from this community for our Christmas Kettle campaign and hamper program.”
In addition to the Kettle Campaign, the Salvation Army will also be creating a fundraising recipe book, titled Need to Feed, which will be on sale in time from the holiday season.
The Salvation Army Thrift Store also continues to raise funds through the sale of donated items at their 12 Mill Street location. They’re open Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Donations are accepted during store hours, with after hour pick ups available by phoning in advance.
Among the programs supported through the Thrift Store are the Food Bank, Good Food Box, OESP and Leap Programs which assist with Hydro and gas bills for struggling families, Ontario Adventure Camp-a week long overnight camp for children aged six to 16 and the Community Gardens.
