Beaver Lake in Tamworth will be host to the annual Ontario Power Boat Racing Series July 13-14.
The event will run from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m on Saturday and Sunday. There will be free admission and family-friendly events such as the crafters market on the Saturday, running from approximately 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and the Classic Car Show on Sunday.
Following a life-long boating passion, Doug Overbury, has been involved with the power boat races since around 2006. Now, Overbury wears two hats, being both a race-organizer and referee at this event.
In anticipation of the power boat races, Overbury took a few moments to speak with the Beaver.
Overbury described Beaver Lake as the perfect venue for racing the small power boats that require a sheltered waterway. Being situated at the grassy Lion’s Park Beach, the location is ideal for families who wish to attend, with the nearby Lakeview Tavern & Restaurant offering lunch fare.
There will be upwards of 75 boats racing that weekend, with 12 different racing divisions.
