SOS to host fundraiser this Saturday at Disco Ball Events

L & A Seniors Outreach Services (SOS) has been helping area seniors stay strong and active, helping them to remain independent in their own homes and in the communities where they live since 1986. Now the organization is reaching out for support to be able to continue those services.

“Our Annual Giving Campaign has so far been quite successful and donations are still coming in,” said Barb French, a member of the volunteer Board of Directors and Chair of the Fundraising Campaign. French said that while the SOS has received grants to help with its operation, there has been a shortfall in needed funding. Covid 19 closures have negatively impacted our ability to generate revenue through memberships and program offerings. However, programs are ongoing with all safety protocols in place.

Fitness, education and social programs are continuing at the SOS both at the main location, 12 Richmond Park Blvd and at other locations in Napanee. The telephone-based Seniors Centre Without Walls (SCWW) program give seniors different options to stay active and connected, which also help seniors stay healthy and active, physically and mentally, while still at home.

A special fundraiser is coming up where everyone can have some fun with Disco Ball Events on Saturday, November 27, from 2 to 5 p.m. A portion of the gate receipts will be donated to the SOS. The Roller Rink is located in the Memorial Arena on York Street and admission is $10. Skate rentals are $5 per pair. Everyone is welcome and all COVID-19 protocols will be in place, including proof of vaccinations.

Other fundraisers will be held in 2022 with a Silent Auction in February and the very popular House & Garden Tour hopes to return in June.

“We are very grateful to our members, to other individuals, community organizations, and businesses that are giving us ongoing support,” French said. “Our motto is ‘Opening Doors to Health and Independence” and we definitely want to be able to keep our doors open.”
