Softball Napanee will be offering a house league program on behalf of the Town of Greater Napanee this summer, taking part with teams from the Deseronto and Stone Mills Minor Softball League.

The exact start date is unknown due to the provincial stay at home order, but the goal is start in June. In the meantime Softball Napanee is looking to gauge the interest of players born between 2004 and 2016. The youngest age group, U6, will run as a skills session, fun format only.

The league is opening pre-registration (no fee required) on its website, SoftballNapanee.com.

Once they can return to the ball diamonds, the league will follow up with confirmation and payment.

The league is also looking for adult volunteers who are interested in coaching or assisting teams. More information can be found on the Softball Napanee website.

While a lot is still unknown about the upcoming ball season, one thing that has been confirmed is the cancellation of the 2021 Canadian Championships due to COVID-19.

“Cancelling the Canadian Championships for a second consecutive year was a decision we did not take lightly and we share in the disappointment of the athletes who were looking forward to competing for a national title,” reads a statement from Softball Canada president Scott Neiles. “Our focus now has shifted towards supporting regional events to give athletes an opportunity to compete outside of local league play in Public Health and safety conditions allow.”
