Snow wreaks havoc as Napanee OPP responds to 28 collisions overnight

Beaver Staff

The first major snow fall of the season kept Napanee OPP busy as they responded to 28 collisions that were reported overnight.

Sixty per cent of the collisions occurred on Hwy 401 and the other 40 per cent were in Lennox and Addington County and Tyendinaga Township. Both the Eastbound and Westbound lanes of Hwy 401 were affected and road closures were tweeted by the OPP at the time of the collision. One motor vehicle collision resulted in minor injuries.

The 401 is currently open, however two tractor trailers remain in the ditch to be recovered later.  These require a more extensive recovery operation and any notice of any lane closures will be tweeted out by the OPP once the date and time have been determined.

Location of remaining two transports are
•      401 Westbound between Hwy 49 and Wymans
•      401 Westbound 300 metres east of Glen Miller

A 21 year old male of Tyendinaga has been charged with careless driving after he attempted to pass another vehicle on Old Hwy 2, Tyendinaga. The driver lost control and his vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. A passenger in this vehicle was treated for minor injuries.

OPP are reminding drivers to reduce speeds and maintain vehicles for poor winter road conditions. Proper tires, clearing snow and ice off vehicles and allowing more time for travel will decrease your chances of being involved in a collision.
