Sloan’s expulsion a relief to Conservatives in the riding

Mr. Sloan’s expulsion should be a relief I think to Conservatives of the riding and all voters in the region. Obviously Mr. O’Toole seems to think the majority of the conservatives from our riding he seeks to represent are informed enough to not align themselves with Mr. Sloan’s views.

In addition I take exception to his position in opposition to the Emissions Accountability Act to avoid “zero jobs in Alberta”. This is populist posturing that does nothing but harm the people of Alberta. The automotive industry has indicated the future development will be heavily invested in electric automobiles. GM for one, says all cars manufactured in 14 years will be electric. Ford has an electric version of the F150, the staple of their sales, planned for volume production next year. Energy companies, many heavily invested in the oil industry, have stated that they intend to invest in renewable energy with up to 40 to 50 percent coming from renewable energy. Albertans and all Canadians are intelligent people who deserve to hear the facts and make informed decisions for their future, not be misled by the likes of Mr. Sloan’s rhetoric.

I might, however, agree with his observations regarding the difficulty in making a significant policy change within our established parties. Given climate change and the near imminent affects it will bring to all of us, the ongoing “Ottawa nice guy politics” that Mr. Sloan refers to must be changed. I have voted for each of the two major parties at various times but can do so no longer. As citizens it is time to alter our lifestyle to be supportive of our environment and to support policies that encourage industry in their own self-interest to do so as well.
