The Napanee U11 Crunch won their second tournament of the season, taking gold at the Belleville Bearcat’s New Year Classic this weekend.

Crunch makes for a perfect moniker for this team as they delivered twice in crunch time, winning a pair of shootouts in the playoff round.

In the semifinals they took on the host Bearcats, battling to a scoreless tie through regulation. After overtime failed to produce a winner, the game went to a shootout, lasting a full eight shooters before Napanee emerged with the 1-0 victory.

It was more of the same in the finals as they were tied with the Kingston Ice Wolves after regulation and overtime, capturing the gold medal in thrilling fashion with a shootout victory.

Napanee went 1-1-2 in round robin play, beating Stoney Creek 1-0 before losing to the Ice Wolves 4-2. They then tied the Kitchener Lady Rangers and Clarington Flames, which was enough to get them to the playoff round where they went undefeated.

Earlier this season these same Crunch girls won the Halloween Havoc Tournament in Cobourg.
