Sentimental Journey Dining and Dancing in Deseronto is planning to close out the summer in style with a Labour Day concert.
Entrance fee for the Sept. 6 event will be a non-perishable food item. Live music will run from 1 to 4 p.m. and feature Lisa Hart, Ken Hudson, Terry Hoffman, Berry Chumbley as Elvis and John Malcolm.
“What we’re really hoping is people just bring a food item,” said Malcolm, who also owns Sentimental Journey Dining and Dancing. “Last year we were really pleasantly surprised we had quite a few people and we managed to get quite a bit of food to the Deseronto and Tyendinaga Food Banks.”
This will mark the second year for the event, which will be held outdoors on the grass just outside the restaurant, located at 501 Dundas Street. Guests are encouraged to bring their own blanket or lawn chair. Pizza and beverages will also be available for $5.
The music will cover a bit of everything from country, to Elvis to oldies but goodies. Malcolm is best known for his act Bit of Nostalgia, which covers all the hits dating back to the 1950s.
“If the weather’s bad we can fit 50 people inside and we’ll socially distance,” added Malcolm. “If it came to do that, that’s what we’d do but hopefully it doesn’t come to that. One way or another, rain or shine we’re going to do it.”
Malcolm says the event is his way of giving back while having a bit of fun and promoting live music.
“We really appreciate the community’s support during the last year and a half,” he said. “We just hope to see lots of people out there and have some fun.”
