Schools across the region could be shutting their doors to students on Monday if CUPE workers are unable to reach a deal with the provincial government.
Both the Limestone District School Board and Algonquin Lakeshore Catholic School Board websites warn parents that they will close their schools to students as a result of escalating strike action by members of CUPE, if an agreement isn’t reached. They cite student safety concerns as their reasoning behind the decision.
An agreement could still be reached by the end of the weekend. Parents are advised to check their school board’s website on Monday morning for the latest before sending their children to school. It’s unclear how long a strike would last.
