Students of all ages at both Limestone and Algonquin Lakeshore Catholic schools are now being asked to wear masks when on the bus or in the class.

Both boards made the announcement Friday, extending the ages to include Kindergarten to Grade 3. Those in Grade 4 to 12 were already required to ear a mask when in class or on the bus and it was always strongly recommended that all students wear a mask, regardless of grade.

“Please note that we recognize this way be difficult for our youngest learners and our focus will be on education around masks,” wrote David DeSantis, director of education for the ALCDSB. “Our staff will work to explore alternatives for some students, such as face shields for students who are unable to wear masks.”

Both boards do note however there will be no disciplinary action for young students who have difficulty complying with the new mask wearing direction.

All staff, visitors and essential workers will be required to wear a mask when school gets underway.
