Rotary Club of Napanee will be hosting a good old-fashioned down east kitchen party in support of local Ukrainian refugee families on Nov. 5.

Held at the Strathcona Paper Centre, the show will feature live music by Turpin’s Trail along with food provided by The Catering Company. Tickets are $100 with proceeds going towards families who have been displaced by the war in Ukraine and fled to the safety of Canada, now living in the Napanee area.

Consisting of Jon McLurg, Chris Murphy and Noah St. Amand, Turpin’s Trail play a mix of original and traditional tunes, utilizing over a dozen different instruments throughout their set. They’ve shared the stage with the likes of Sarah Harmer, Ron Hynes, Leahy and more, having embarked on multiple tours across Atlantic Canada.

“They’re certainly pretty well received. It’ll be Celtic kind of down home music,” explains Rotary club of Napanee’s Mary Anne Evans. “We haven’t established a number (of how much they’re hoping to raise from the fundraising concert), we’re just hoping to sell lots of tickets so that all the proceeds can go to these folks.”

This will be the local Rotary Club’s second fundraising to assist the citizens of Ukraine, the first being a golf tournament held over the summer. This event will be different in that money raised from the concert will stay local, assisting families that have relocated to the Lennox and Addington region.

“There are a number of families in Lennox and Addington County,” said Evans. “We have a contact lady in Napanee, Maria Stebelsky, she’s Ukrainian and she works a lot with these groups and we certainly found out through her that (refugees fleeing the danger of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine) just really have nothing. Maybe a backpack. No money and not even clothing so there’s a big need there.”

The show will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are available at Mainstay Natural Foods, located at 71 John St. in Napanee and at L&A Mutual Insurance, located at 76 East St. in Napanee. They can also be obtained by calling 613-354-0792. Monetary donations for those unable to attend the show are also vey much welcomed and can be arranged by calling the number listed above.
