The January blahs continued for the Napanee Raiders this weekend as they split a pair of games, topping Campbellford 5-2 at home Friday before falling 6-4 in Frankford on Saturday.

Napanee entered the final frame of Saturday’s match tied 4-4 with the Huskies but were unable to keep pace. Dylan Foster put the Huskies up by one with less than five minutes to go and Jacob Tinney wrapped up the win with an empty net goal.

Christos Chronis, Connor Brooks, Maverick Labrie and Marshall McFarland all scored in the losing effort for Napanee. Bailey Maracle took the loss with 33 saves on 38 attempts. Hayden Candler earned the win with 29 stops.

The win marked the second straight for the Huskies over the Raiders after edging them 4-3 on Jan. 6 at the SPC.

Napanee kicked off the weekend with a 5-2 win over the last place Rebels.

Each side scored in the opening frame, with Ben Carter scoring for the home team Raiders. Napanee went up for good when Cameron Krupa scored just 1:15 into the second period and Ben White tacked on another at 8:57. White had his second of the game in the third and Blake Aylesworth added an insurance goal for good measure at 15:22 of the third on the power-play.

Alex Zamuner earned the win with 26 saves while Keaton Lyons faced 62 shots on the night, turning away 57 of them.

With the weekend split Napanee is now 4-3 in January, a stark contrast from their overall mark of 27-4-1. They still hold a 15 point lead over the second place Amherstview Jets who have 40 points in the same 32 games played. The Huskies’ win bumped them into third place with 31 points in 30 games, just ahead of the Picton Pirates who have 30 points, but just 26 games played. Port Hope is fifth with 28 points in 30 games while the Rebels have four points in 28 played.

Napanee will close out the month with two games this coming weekend, starting with a home date against the Amherstview Jets on Friday. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m. at the SPC. On Saturday the Raiders travel to Port Hope for a 7:30 p.m. start time.
