-A Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (T.I.M.E.) team officer of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle for traveling 186 km/hr on Highway 401 in L&A County.

On Jan. 17, just after 7:30 a.m., a T.I.M.E. team officer was parked stationary in the median on Highway 401 just east of Palace Road running radar looking for speeders. The officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed toward him. The officer activated the radar of the police vehicle and obtained a speed of 186 km/hr. The vehicle was stopped without incident.

As a result of the investigation, a 29-year-old male, from Gloucester, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Dive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Provincial Offences Court in Greater Napanee at a later date. The accused had his license suspended for 30 days, and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

Speeding continues to be a leading cause of serious injury collisions on provincial highways. Despite Ontario implementing stiffer stunt driving laws in 2021, some motorist are still not deterred and continue to put others lives at risk. The Lennox & Addington OPP charged a motorist with travelling 186km/hr along a stretch of Highway 401. Lennox & Addington OPP Detachment Commander Dave Tovell says “these driving acts are dangerous and reckless and show no regard for the safety of other motorists using our highways. We encourage the public to call 911 if they observe any driving that puts others at risk.” In 2023 speeding was a factor in five fatal collisions in Lennox & Addington area.
