Hawks report: wrestling team picks up three medals, junior volleyball girls remain unbeaten

NDSS’ wrestling team took part in the Bayside Invitational Wrestling Tournament on Jan. 17, with eight of their athletes placing in the top 10 for their weight class.

Among their top finishers were Nathan Zwiers (silver, 44kg). Maddy Lee (67.5 kg fourth), Isabelle McGinnis (bronze, 64kg), Mia Hollywood Mack (bronze, 51kg), Tyler Nibourg (fourth, 77kg), Robyn Moffat (fourth, 61kg), (Parker Fawcett 72kg, fifth) and Ava Amodeo (fifth 83kg).

NDSS will host the EOSSAA Wrestling Tournament on Feb. 14, with the top finishers there qualifying for OFSSAA.

-NDSS’ boys hockey team dropped back-to-back home games this week, falling 7-4 to the Marie Rivier Dragons before getting blanked by the Frontenac Falcons at the SPC. Carter Slaven had a pair of goals against the Dragons while Kohen Cutler and Owen Kish each had a goal.

-NDSS’ girls hockey team moved to 2-1 on the season with a 7-2 win over Regi.

-NDSS’ junior girls volleyball team swept Ernestown in three sets to remain unbeaten at 9-0 on the season. They’ll have a chance to clinch first on Tuesday when they take on Kingston Secondary. The senior girls also swept Ernestown to improve to an even 5-5 on the season.

-NDSS’ junior boys basketball team won a tightly contested 34-28 game over Ernestown. The senior team was also victorious, topping Ernestown 44-36.
