Police Report: OPP seize weapons and large quantity of cash during traffic stop in Greater Napanee

On March 17 at approximately 4:30 p.m. officers of the Lennox and Addington OPP were on patrol on Hwy 401 eastbound in Greater Napanee.

Officers observed a vehicle with a heavily tinted driver’s side window and initiated a traffic stop east of the Napanee Exit.

Investigation revealed that the driver was in possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime and the driver was subsequently arrested.  Officers seized an electric shock weapon, bear spray, a passport and approximately $39,000 cash in Canadian Currency.

L&A County OPP has charged a 30-year-old of Toronto, contrary to the Criminal Code with:

  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime;
  • Three counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • Possession of a prohibited device
  • Possession of an identity document.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on May 18, 2021.

-Two people are facing several criminal charges following a vehicle stop for speeding on Thursday evening.

Just after 7:30 p.m. on March 18,  a member of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) East Region Highway Safety Division (HSD) was conducting speed enforcement on Hwy 401 in Tyendinaga Township when they observed an eastbound vehicle travelling above the posted speed limit. The officer’s observations were confirmed through the use of a radar speed measuring device.

While interacting with the occupants of the vehicle, the officer observed stolen property in the vehicle. The driver and occupant were placed under arrest and a search of the vehicle revealed a stolen dealer licence plate and 10 catalytic converters along with a quantity of Canadian currency and Fentanyl.

The driver of the vehicle, a 23-year-old from North York, Ontario was charged with:

·      Possession of stolen property;

·      Possession of proceeds of crime;

·      Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available;

·      Speeding

·      Failing to surrender a driver’s licence.

A passenger in the vehicle, a 23-year-old from Montreal, is charged with:

·      Possession of stolen property obtained by crime

·      Possession of Schedule 1 Substance (Fentanyl).

Both accused people were released from custody and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on May 25, 2021.

-On March 17 at approximately 12 p.m., officers of the Lennox and Addington OPP responded to a report of a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner on 401 westbound.

Police initiated a traffic stop near the Napanee exit and determined that the driver was showing signs of impairment. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to detachment for further processing by a Drug Recognition Expert Officer.

As a result, L&A County OPP have charged a 27-year-old of Kingston with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drug
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance – Methamphetamine

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on May 18, 2021. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
