Police report: OPP recover large stash of cannabis plants and fire arms

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) have seized over 4,000 thousand cannabis plants and a large number of firearms at locations near McArthur’s Mills.

CSCU officers, along with members of the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Canine Unit and Provincial Asset Forfeiture Unit executed warrants on Sept. 15 at two locations on Hartsmere Road, one in Carlow-Mayo Township and the other in Addington Highlands Township.

In addition to the cannabis plants, officers also seized nearly 140-kilograms of dried cannabis, nearly 500-kilograms of cannabis shake, growing and processing equipment and over a dozen firearms. Some of these weapons are semi-automatic rifles.

A total of 15 people were arrested and charged with:

  • Cultivate, propagate or harvest more than four cannabis plants
  • Possessing Cannabis for the purpose of selling
  • Careless storage of a firearm

-On Sept. 17 at approximately 11:30 p.m. an officer with the Lennox and Addington County OPP was on general patrol on Deseronto Road in Tyendinaga Township.  A vehicle travelling at 150 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone was stopped on Deseronto Road near County Road One West.

The driver, an 18 year old from Greater Napanee, was charged with Stunt Driving under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. The driver’s licence was seized and suspended and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. The driver was given a summons to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee at a later date.

-On Sept. 18 at approximately 9 a.m. an officer with the Lennox and Addington County OPP was conducting speed enforcement on County Road 41 in Stone Mills Township.  A vehicle travelling at 142 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone was stopped on County Road 41 near Youngs Road.

The driver, a 21 year old from Toronto, was charged with Stunt Driving under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. The driver’s licence was seized and suspended and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. The driver was given a summons to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee at a later date.
