Police recover body from vehicle submerged in Amherstview’s Lake Ontario

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) has recovered the body of one person after a vehicle entered Lake Ontario and became submerged.

This morning just after 10 a.m., LA County OPP received a report that a vehicle had left the roadway and entered the water at the intersection of Bath Road and County Road 6 in Amherstview.

Officers from the L&A County Detachment, along with Loyalist Fire and EMS responded to the scene. There was no sign of the driver or possible occupants at the location. The USRU responded and recovered the body of one person who officers believe was the driver. Investigating officers do not believe there were any other occupants in the vehicle when it entered the water.

The identity of the deceased is not being released at this time.

The investigation is ongoing with assistance from the OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI).
