Police provide further details on Thursday’s arrest of armed suspect in Millhaven

One person is custody after an incident involving a firearm in Bath.

On Nov. 26, shortly after 5 p.m., officers of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a family dispute on Bath Road in Loyalist Township.  A victim had been assaulted, with the assailant then fleeing in a vehicle.

Shortly before 6 p.m., police receive a call about a road rage incident on Taylor-Kidd Boulevard. The vehicle, which had left the earlier scene, was observed being driven in an erratic manner. There was an altercation with the other driver who was assaulted. During this incident a firearm was discharged. There were no serious injuries as a result of this incident. Eventually the attacker fled on foot.

L&A County OPP members, the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and OPP Canine Unit conducted an intensive search of the area.  The OPP utilized the Alert Ready emergency system to broadcast a message to all cell phones in the area, as well as through radio and television broadcasts. A suspect was arrested without incident at approximately 8 p.m.

A 27-year-old man of Loyalist Township has been charged with:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Assault
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Dangerous operation of a vehicle

The accused was held for a bail hearing.

The investigation remains ongoing by the L&A County OPP Crime Unit.
