Police issue arrest warrant for suspect accused of discharging firearm during Deseronto break in attempt

Lennox & Addington OPP have been continuing the investigation into a Jan. 17 incident during which a firearm was discharged during an attempt to gain entry into an apartment on Mill Street in Deseronto. That investigation has identified a suspect and a warrant has now been issued for the arrest of Dyllon Nelson.

Just before 9 p.m. on January 17, a 911 call was made by a resident of an apartment on Mill Street in Deseronto. The caller reported that an unknown masked person had just attempted to gain entry into the apartment. When entry was refused the suspect discharged a firearm at the door before fleeing.

Members of the L&A detachment and the Tyendinaga Police Service immediately converged on the area. A canine track was conducted with the assistance of the OPP’s Tactics and Rescue (TRU) team but the suspect was not located.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Nelson, 26 years old, of no fixed address. The accused has been charged with:

  • Pointing a firearm;
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm;
  • Discharging a firearm with intent to commit a criminal offence;
  • Criminal Harassment; and
  • Wearing a disguise with intent to commit a criminal offence.

Police strongly caution that the accused is considered dangerous. Anyone with information about Nelson’s whereabouts should not approach them but should contact police immediately by calling 911.
