The weekend had a silver lining for the Calderwood Napanee Express U10 boys in Ponsonby at the OASA provincial tournament, as they finished second overall in the province.

Entering the tournament in the top ranked A division and seeded sixth overall, they had their work cut out for them.

Saturday’s round robin games included a great showing but tough loss against the top seeded Chatsworth Express and a nail biter extra-innings win against the Willmott (New Hamburg) Thunder.

Sunday morning they met the Drumbo PDP Lightening and it would again take extra-innings for Napanee to come out on top.

Advancing to the semi-finals, they faced off against the undefeated Springbrook Royals.  The boys in red dug deep and demonstrated some of the weekends best pitching and defense to pull off a 6-5 win and a berth in the all Express gold medal game.

In their third game of the day Napanee came out slugging with a lead-off triple followed quickly by an inside the park home run to take a 2-1 lead. Chatsworth would rebound with a steady stream of hits and runs that Napanee just couldn’t match.

With a final score of 14-4 for Chatsworth, Napanee would finish the tournament as silver medalists, second in the province.
