Perfect weekend for host gold medal winning Express girls at U15 PWSA Qualifier

Napanee’s U15 Express girls outscored their opponents 52-16 en route to a perfect 5-0 record at the PWSA Tier II Qualifier, held this weekend at the fairgrounds.

The host Express matched up against Oshawa in the gold medal game, defeating the Lady B’s 7-2 to complete the unbeaten weekend.

On Friday they got off to a hot start, topping Cobourg 15-1 via the mercy rule.

They kept swinging on Saturday, winning a 15-10 slugfest against Stittsville. Next they rolled over the Barrie Storm 11-3 before blanking Barrie’s first entry, also with the Storm moniker, 4-0 to advance to the finals.

Express starter Peyton Brooks was relied on heavily through the weekend and she delivered, going 5-0.

With their first place finish the Express have qualified for the ‘A’ Division of the Provincial Grand Championships, which will take place Aug. 11-13 in Stratford.

This weekend’s win was the second tournament win of the season for the Express, who placed first in Cobourg in June.

The Express are made up of Finlay Paul, Hailey Bruce, Reese Hutcheson, Karly Guindon, Gracie Thompson, Brynn Woodcock, Isla Dixon, Shayla Huych, Eden Howes, Peyton Brooks, Maddy Flear, Shyann Whan and Marley Heyman.
