The Napanee Peewee BBs eliminated Collingwood to reach the OMHA Finals with a 6-2 win on Sunday. Cal Uens scored on a one-on-one to start the onslaught. Carter McKee slid in a rebound, but it was Ethan Sutcliffe’s point blast that was the eventual winner. Spencer Cranley got the first of three to close out the first. Shots on goal in the first were 21-2 for Napanee. Goalie Holden Breault started for the locals.
In Saturday’s game, the boys came out hungry, out-shooting their guests 21-4 in the first, but didn’t score. Midway in the game, Uens blocked a clearing pass to go in two-on-one with Cranley, who put it between the goaltender’s legs. Late in the second, Uens rang one off the post, and McKee slid in the rebound. Cranley’s high shot in the third frame was set up by Gavin Brooks, and Cranley netted his third into an empty cage. Sam Rickard got the start in goal, and was called on to make timely stops.
– The Atom BB Stars split games with Midland losing 3-2 on Saturday, and winning 2-1 on Sunday to begin their six point semifinal series. Both games went into overtime, illustrating the parity between the teams. Matthew Airhart put them up a goal on Saturday, but needed Carter Slaven’s tally in the third to force overtime. A controversial penalty call early in overtime led to the visitor’s power-play goal. Sunday was just as close, as the locals fell behind early, but Blake Wood’s third period shot from the point was deflected by a Midland defenceman into the goal. In the overtime, a close call in front of goalie Aidan Difasio was waved off, while at the other end, a Stars winger bounced one off the goalie, but it sailed onto the top of the net. With under four minutes left, Tie Wood sent the puck toward the Midland goal, and it ricochetted off defenders and in the net.
– The Novice AFW Construction BB Stars began their semifinal Eastern Ontario series with a 2-1 win and a 2-2 tie in Newcastle. In Sunday’s tie, Colton Lockridge tallied twice for the Stars- one in the first and one in the third. They have three of the six points they need to advance to the final.
– The Joyce’s Meats & Deli Atom AEs ended their playoffs with a tight 6-5 loss to Saugeen Shores on Saturday. Early in the second, Evan Godfrey put the Stars up by one. Godfrey got his second tally as he banked one off the goalie from behind the net. Their opponents came back with three including one with 2.3 seconds left in the second. Sam McCaw tied it to start the third as he went five-hole from the top of the circle. Jacob Cox scored a short handed marker to make it 4-3 for the Stars, but soon it was 6-4 for their guests. Tivon James made it close in the last minute going five-hole, but it wasn’t enough. Goalie Jack Godfrey got the start.
– The Napanee Calderwood Automation Peewee AEs lost 6-2 in Collingwood to end their run.
Napanee Crunch
The Atom B Crunch Played Gopened Game 1 of the eastern final of the Lower Lakes league playoffs with a 2-1 win over the Whitby Wolves.
Sienna Eberle and Alexa Tyner provided the goals while Eberle, Alaina Holmes and Brooklyn Alaver had assists.
They also had a provincial playdown game on Sunday against the Kemptville Storm, which ended in a scoreless draw. Mikenna Ford was great in net for both games.
– The Peewee BB Crunch have qualified for the Provincial Championship tournament on April 6-8 in Toronto.
They played Game 2 of the best-of-three series against the Kingston Ice Wolves last Wednesday, winning 4-0.
Meena Peterson was a wall in net for the win and shutout. Goals were scored by Megan Morsette, Lila Pringle (two) and Claire McConnell. Assists came from McConnell, Mackenzie Tyner (two), Bethany Foster, Kristen Sutton and Megan Morsette.
They also played Games 1 and 2 of the Eastern Division final of the Lower Lakes League. Game 1 was a 0-0 tie with Keyra Herrington picking up the shutout. Game 2 was played in Whitby on Sunday with Napanee winning 3-0. Peterson earned the win. Tyner, Lila Pringle and Morsette each netted a goal. The only assist went to Tyner.
Game 3 goes this Thursday at the SPC at 6 p.m.
