NDCC had three teams competing in the school curling playdowns in KASSAA under the tutorage of Mark Dunham. The mixed team of Bily Hoyle, Hannah McCaffrey, Laim MacTaggart and Maddy Fretts; the boys team of Devlen Benton, Austin Dunham, Isaiah Dunham and Wesley Wales and the girls team of Emma Schmidt, Nicole Beer, Cailyn Barton and Leah Oster. All three teams curled good games but unfortunately this year did not make the playoffs. Great curling to all of you.
Congratulations to Linda Blake, Pam Jordan, Sherryl Bentley and Natasha Augustine on their win in the second draw of the Napanee District Curling Club’s Wednesday Ladies League, besting Gayle Johnson, Angela Kurc, Cathy Howard and Leslie Sweet by just a few points. The Tuesday Mixed League showed Doug Pennell, Val Burgess, Max Bishop and Sheila Pennell on top followed closely by Robert Hough, Jane Hough, Mike Derry and Jane Derry.
On the evening of Feb. 17 NDCC was the venue for a first, ever Paint Night. Twenty-nine participants, members and non-members alike, appeared extremely happy with their evening. Paint Night was a fundraising event for the club and due to the very positive feedback from the participants, it is highly likely that it will continue with an annual February Paint Night stated fundraising director, Linda Bongard. Sherry Pringle, a long time curler, author and artist was the instructor for the evening and did a fantastic job as all went home with a professional copy of their own rendition of Bon Echo rock.
NDCC’s Annual Highland Lassie convened by Heather Ramshaw and her committee of Natasha Augustine, Gail Maracle and Sandy Semple resulted in another successful event for the club having a full slate of 16 teams from Napanee, RKCC, Tam Heather, Dixie, Gananoque, Picton and Scarborough. The winning team of Tammy Scott-Zelt, Judy Sly, Kinberly Braker and Kathleen Poole from RKCC thanked all the kitchen staff while runner up Debby Granger, Vickie Gervais, Lorna Higgins and Val Harlow from Tam Heather CC in Scarborough thanked the bar and ice staff. The day started with morning snacks by Chris Downey and helpers followed by a delicious lunch by Mary Jane Elvins and helpers and ended with a famous dessert table also with Elvins overseeing a wide display of goodies donated by member volunteers. Heather Ramshaw thanked all the volunteers. Ramshaw also thanked her long time sponsor Marj Pearce for making her job easier when it came to the prize table and the ladies that donated raffle prizes.
