Peewee AE Stars sweep Elmvale

The Napanee Calderwood Automation Peewee AE Stars swept their quarter-final series with Elmvale with a 6-5 road win Saturday to move on to the semifinals to face Collingwood.

The boys took a 4-0 lead, but gave up a couple of quick goals. Later, they led 6-3, and hung on for the win. Goal scorers were Nic Lamarche (two), Duncan Clarke (two), Jayden Holden, and Cameron Pearson. Pearson, with the Stars short-handed by two players, managed to tally an important goal in the penalty-filled game.

– The Joyce’s Meats & Deli Atom AE Stars also gained a sweep in their series, finishing off Collingwood with a 6-1 win on the road. Although it was scoreless after one period, the team was full value in the victory. Wyatt Albright, Sophie Fraser, and Jacob Cox scored in the second frame, and Scott Scrimshaw, Fraser, and Cox tallied in the third. Malcolm McCaw, Sam McCaw, Evan Gaffney, Fraser, and Scrimshaw all added assists. The team scored two short-handed goals, and never let up. Collingwood bounced one past goaltender Hudson Wiltshire, but he was solid between the posts. Next up is Saugeen Shores.

– The Atom BBs, after almost a month off, matched up with Lindsay, earning three of a possible four points on the weekend.  The team played well Saturday, but needed a late goal for a 2-2 tie. Scoring for Napanee were Ty Wood from Liam Birney and Kohen Cutler. Aidan DiFazio gave a solid performance in goal.

On Sunday, the first period was scoreless, although the locals outshot their guests 10-0. Lindsay tallied early in the second, but Cutler chipped in the first of two in a goal mouth scramble. Matthew Airhart got his own rebound to put the team ahead to stay. Cutler’s second was on a fine feed from Carter Slaven behind the net. Ten seconds later, Slaven took a bounce off the backboard to score again. Dylan Kemp added an empty net tally to make it 5-2. Also making the scoresheet with assists were Carter Hartwick (two), Airhart (three), Slaven, and Cutler. Shots on goal were 32-9 for the Stars.

– The Napanee Bantam BBs opened their quarter finals in Wellington with a 3-1 loss to Prince Edward County. Back home on Sunday, the locals gave up a power play goal, and the score was 2-0 for the home team starting the third. Caden Holmes was able to tip a point shot by Zach Maracle which eluded the goalie to get them within one. With less that three minutes remaining, John Hearns scored right off the faceoff to tie the score at 2-2. Overtime settled nothing. Tonight they are back in Wellington for Game 3.

– The Napanee Cab Midgets won 4-1 on Sunday night to force Game 4 of their six point series with Prince Edward County. Ryan Kirkpatrick chipped in a pair, while Seth Barton got a power play marker and Keegan Makpah rounded out the scoring.  Saturday they were edged in Wellington 3-2 after an earlier 2-0 shutout loss.

n The AFW Construction Novice team split weekend games with a strong 5-2 performance in Ennismore, but they fell 6-1 in Gananoque. They are presently in second place.

—Napanee Crunch—-

The Atom B Crunch won their playoff game versus the Kingston Ice Wolves 3-0.  Mckenna Ford earned the shutout.

– The Doyle’s Windows and Sunrooms Midget BB tied the Lindsay Lynx 1-1 in Game 1 of their playoff series.  Katie Hearns had the lone goal, assisted by Amber Weese.  Maddy Burgess held off the Lynx scorers in net.  Game 2 will go on Friday night in Lindsay with Game 3 back in Napanee Sunday at 5 p.m.

– The Peewee BBs played an exhibition game against the Kingston Ice Wolves AA team and lost 2-1. Sydney Woodcock had Napanee’s only goal with help from Kaydin and Kaylee Brooks.
