NDCC prepares for final month of curling action

Congratulations are in order for some second draw winners at the Napanee and District Curling Club.

Thursday day ladies showed Susi Reinink, Nancy Wilkie, Joan Reynolds and Sandi Coleman winning five out of six games while Sandy Eastlake, Jane Hough, Robin Stockfish and Jessica Kaiser also had five wins but their loss was to Reinink’s rink, putting her ahead.

The Thursday evening men’s league had Ian Munro, Paul McDonald, Don Pearson and Ken Booker in first place with eight wins and Kirk Donald, Allan Wrigglesworth, John Dickson and Chris Jackson taking second spot. In the Friday night mixed league the team of Doug Pennell, Brenda Kerr, Don Kerr and Sheila Pennell won the draw followed closely by Louise VanHeighten, Arnold VanHeighten, Patty Lion and Frank Lion.

In the 19 team Up&At’Em on Tuesday mornings the team of Sandy Eastlake, Don Kerr, Max Bishop and Jessica Kaiser won all their games followed closely by Al Thompson, Stacey Jones, Marg Peters and Glenn McFadden as well as Chris Downey, Bill Ryan, Anjo Vanvark and Ted Kennedy, who had only one loss but Thompson had more ends than Downey, putting his team in second spot.

Other leagues are still battling it out to see who will get their name on the trophy.

The team of Gayle Johnson, Donna Poirier, Louise VanHeighten and Cathy Palmer took the runner up prize in the Queen of the Castle ladies bonspiel in Picton last Saturday. They missed winning the whole event by one point.

The Highland Lassie this Saturday has a full slate of 16 teams. Members are encouraged to mark their calendar and watch for the sign up sheet, the closing Martin and Walters is set for March 24 this year due to Easter falling so early in April.

The Greater Kingston Curling Continental Cup (RKCC, Garrison, Cataraqui, Gananoque, Napanee) is being held at the Cataraqui Curling Club on March 3 and still has spots available so call Ian Munro if anyone is interested in participating. This is the second annual event, which is hosted in a different venue each year. Napanee hosted last season.
