Lennox and Addington Museum and Archives have a packed schedule of virtual events geared towards all ages planned for the month of April.
All month long the museum will have free paper bunny ribbon craft kits available for pickup. On April 3 the museum will post a video to its Facebook page featuring Linda Fraser, who will give step-by-step directions on how to put them all together.
“These are actually traditional crafts that would have been done around Easter and are still done,” said Amber Meyer, program coordinator at the L&A County Museum and Archives. “These will be a paper ribbon bunny that should be able to be done by anybody, though they might need some help for the little ones.”
Birdhouse craft kits are also available at the museum.
The craft kits are free and pickup can be arranged by emailing ameyer@lennox-addington.on.ca.
For the adults, the museum will be hosting four virtual presentations, which will be hosted on Zoom.
On April 6 starting at 7 p.m. will be What Gravestones Can Tell You About Your Ancestors: A Genealogists Guide.
Besides functioning as a memorial to the deceased, gravestones provide insight into 19th and 20th century life. The visual imagery of the gravestone motifs functions as a decorative element, which reaffirm the position of the deceased within the community and celebrate relationships.
On April 8, also at 7 p.m., Jane MacNamara will present Life on the Farm, Your Ancestor’s Place in Ontario Agriculture.
“We thought this was relevant to our area as we think of farmer as a traditional occupation that hasn’t really changed, but that’s not the case,” said Meyer. “Farmers have adapted to changing conditions, changing times, changing technologies and it’s really about the farmer’s adaptability through time.”
To close out the month, on April 20 and 27, both starting at 7 p.m., photographer Kyla Ubbink will present a two-part series on family history as it relates to family photographs. She’ll talk about the various types of photographs and how they were created which can offer clues as to the date they were taken.

To mark March Break, which has been moved to mid-April, the L&A Museum has partnered with the Kingston Association of Museums (KAM) to take part in the Virtual March of the Museums. Free activity kits can be picked up from the L&A Museum and will offer digital family friendly activities taking place April 12-16.
