Dominic Marquis slammed the door on the Napanee Raider offense on Friday night, stopping 37 shots to lead the Port Hope Panthers to a 2-1 victory at the SPC.

Cam Krupa was the only Raider to solve Marquis, scoring at the 13:20 mark of the second period with assists from Christos Chronis and Marshall McFarland.

Krupa’s goal came when the Raiders were already down 2-0. Isaac Langdon got the visitors on the board just 2:34 into the game. Sidney Wakely had an early strike in the second period, finding the back of the net 2:25 into the frame.

Those were the only two blemishes on the scoresheet for Raider tender Logan Vale, who finished the night with 25 saves and a tough luck loss. Despite the Raiders dominating the time on attack, particularly in the third period when they fired 19 shots, they came up empty in their attempt to find the equalizer. The Panthers meanwhile had just five shots in the third, all of which were turned away. Marquis stood tall and withstood the Raider barrage for the final 20 minutes, clinging to the one goal lead. Both teams were shutout on the power-play, Napanee going 0-3 while the Panthers had four attempts.

The loss drops the Raiders record to 3-3-1 on the season, placing them third in the East Tod Division.

Frankford leads the way at 6-1 (12 points), followed by Port Hope at 4-2-1 (nine), and then Napanee in third. The Amherstview Jets are just one point back with a 4-3 record, the Picton Pirates are fifth with a mark of 2-3-1 (five) and the Campbellford Rebels are still winless at 0-5-1 (one).

Napanee is back in action on Friday when they welcome the Amherstview Jets to the SPC. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday they hit the road to take on the top ranked Huskies in Frankford for a 6:50 p.m. start time.
