Lennox and Addington OPP and L&A OPP Crime Unit are investigating a suspected opioid related death incident with the assistance of the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory Police.

Early on June 29, officers responded at a home in the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory for an unresponsive 38 year-old female who was later pronounced deceased.

With the assistance of Belleville Police Service, 39-year-old Richard Johnston from Belleville was charged with possessing fentanyl and crystal meth for the purpose of trafficking.

OPP remind people dealers are knowingly distributing products that cause harm and could kill. Police advise there is no safe use of illegal drug use and they are a concern for the user who purchased from the accused.

The investigation remains ongoing under the direction of Det. Insp. David MacDonald of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.

Anyone with information regarding the person(s) responsible should immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122.
