Napanee-area residents will be among the first across Ontario to hear Caroline Mulroney’s visions for her Progressive Conservative leadership campaign which, if successful, could see her facing off with Premier Kathleen Wynne this year.
The Hastings-Lennox and Addington PC riding association has announced it will welcome Mulroney for a rally at the Greater Napanee Fire Services Station at 7 p.m. Friday evening. There, the party’s candidate for the new riding, former MP Daryl Kramp will introduce Mulroney.
“I’m pleased Napanee was chosen for a visit in Caroline Mulroney’s first week as a leadership candidate,” said Kramp in a news release. “People want the opportunity to meet the candidates. We all know there is much to be done to put Ontario back on track.”
The eldest daughter of former prime minister Brian Mulroney and a lawyer educated at Harvard and New York universities, Mulroney is also a mother of four. She took a leave of absence from her job with BloombergSen Investment Partners (a Toronto-based venture capital firm) in August to run for the Tories in the York-Simcoe riding.
Mulroney announced Sunday she’d enter the race for the position of leader, which became vacant Jan. 25 when Patrick Brown resigned amid anonymous accusations of sexual misconduct he denies. Former PC MPP Christine Elliott and former Toronto city councillor Doug Ford have also announced their intention to run. The party will select its new leader March 10.
Riding association officials are asking attendees to come early as space may be limited.
