Art aficionados starved for their annual premier art show and sale in Newburgh won’t have to wait much longer as Stoney Steps Art Fest is ready to fill that void June 18.

Following in the footsteps of the well-received Art Among the Ruins, which was hosted by the Anderson family for 14 years before wrapping up in 2019, Stoney Steps will be held on a picturesque property owned by event organizer Martha Embury. The event was slated to debut in 2020 but was postponed for two years due to the pandemic.

“At Stoney Steps Art Fest you can spend the day shopping for beautiful handmade goods and fine art from some of the best artisans in the region, sit under a tree and sip tea and listen to birds sing and musicians play,” said Embury. “You can tantalize your taste buds with delicious lunch and homemade pie lovingly prepared by the Newburgh/Camden Lion’s Club and both Newburgh and Centreville United Church members.”

The juried art show will feature over 60 artists and makers spread out across the riverfront property that takes its name from the naturally occurring limestone steps.

“I’m opening up a bursary program at the local community foundation and I would like to sponsor a student from Stone Mills that would like to pursue the arts in post secondary,” Embury said of the proceeds raised from entry fees paid by artists attending the show. “It’s a not-for-profit show because I would like the proceeds to go to students in the township of Stone Mills that are going to pursue the arts.”

The show runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and in the event of rain it will be pushed to June 19.

Parking is available for persons with disabilities right on site at 476 County Rd 11 in Newburgh. Parking is also available in an unpaved farm lane through the fields just off County Road 11, with a tractor ride available to the site. For those who wish to walk, the property is 0.75 km from Newburgh or Strathcona.
