On Friday, June 10, NDSS students will get the chance to show their support for their dear Hawk Val Brooks-McEwen, who has been away from her desk at the main office this past year, courageously battling cancer.

She has been at NDSS for over 40 years – first as a student and then as a ‘go-to’ person for students and staff.

The Carni-VAL will run tomorrow from 12:20 to 2:30pm. There will be a canteen lunch, hotdogs, cotton candy, freezies and drinks. After lunch, there will be all kinds of events to do, Some notable events include Soak Student Council, test your pitch speed at the Pitch Challenge. Try out life size Jenga and then get your picture taken in our Perfect Purple People contest.

Most events are free, but students are encouraged to bring change for food, raffle tickets and some extra special events.

Students and staff will be wearing purple tomorrow because we will wrap up the fun with a first ever school-wide drone video.

For the first time in over two years, students are excited to participate in a school wide activity to support Val and show their school spirit. The last school wide event was March 13, 2020

The event is being organized by the Interact Club and teachers Nancy Savage and Lisa McGowan.  Many other students across all grades have also been involved by creating fun activities for the event and helping run activities leading up to the day such as the cookie decorating contest by the Family Studies class. The event has become a school wide show of support for Val.

Information about the event can be found on @NDSSInteractClub Instagram page. There is a link in the instagram bio for any member of the public that would like to donate to Val.
