NDSS’ girls curling team earned their way into EOSSAA after finishing second at the KASSAA finals, held Friday at the Napanee District Curling Club.

Napanee achieved their goal of qualifying for EOSSAA, which takes place Feb. 27-28 in Cornwall, just by reaching the finals. They did however also have their sights set on repeating as KASSAA champions-with the Kingston Secondary School (KSS) Bears the last team standing in their way. NDSS had the disadvantage of needing to win two games to claim the title of the double-knock out tournament, while the Bears entered undefeated and needed just one win.

NDSS made it interesting, winning the first match 10-4 to force a winner-take-all. They ultimately fell one rock short, losing 7-6.

Napanee began the KASSAA tournament by losing to Frontenac 8-7 in an extra end. They met Frontenac again later and won 8-2 on Tuesday. Curlers are skip Reese Hutchison, vice Hailey Bruce, second Katie Buchan and lead Julia MacDermaid.

The NDSS Mixed team of skip Sloane Hartin, vice Nate Stacey, second Gabby Stacey and leads Josh Chamberlain and Jack Gregory came up one win short of qualifying for EOSSAA losing 8-5 to Regiopolos Notre Dame. They began the day with a 8-4 win over Loyalist Collegiate Vocational Institute 2.  Earlier in the tournament they lost game one to Regi 8-3 and then beat Frontenac 1 9-2 and LaSalle 8-2.

The NDSS Boy’s team lost out on qualifying for EOSSAA with a 10-3 loss to KSS 1. They began the tourney with a 10-1 win over KSS 2, but lost to the eventual champions from Frontenac 8-3. Players are skip Jackson Colazio, vice Logan Harris, second Adam Chadwick and lead Myles Chadwick.

NDSS’ Mixed Team 2 also lost their first game 10-5

Team 2 started the tournament with a loss to LaSalle 10-5. They rebounded with a win vs Frontenac 2 10-1. Their tournament ended on Tuesday with a 8-3 defeat vs LCVI 2.
