Napanee District Curling Club hosted the CurlON Senior Mixed Regional this weekend with eight teams competing.
Thanks to the club’s CurlON Rep, Steve Eastlake and his assistant Gayle Johnson plus a slew of volunteers, all participants were given a warm welcome. The ‘A’ side winning team was J.P. La Chance, Kathy Kerr, Mike Johansen and Andrea Ryan from the Rideau Curling Club and the ‘B’ side winner also came from the Rideau Curling Club in the form of Paul Madden, Natalie Boucher, Michel Boucher and Marlene Elliott.
Eastlake thanks all his scorers, Robin Stockfish’s kitchen staff, the bar staff and naturally Don Currier and his crew for terrific ice for allowing him to host such events each and every season.
The Canada Curling Association depends on clubs like NDCC to step forward and do its part by hosting play-downs which allows the CCA to hold provincial and national events.
One such event is the Tim Horton’s Brier that just finished and could end up in Kingston in 2020 if they win the bid.
Congratulations to Monday Men’s second draw winners. ‘A’ side winner was Jim Stapley, Kevin MacLean, Stephen Paul and Darrell Pritchard with runner up Mark Dunham, Paul McDonald, Steve Kapusta, and Austin Dunham and ‘B’ winner was Ray Snider, Daryl Lalonde, Allen Wrigglesworth and David Coles with Phil Wilson, Scott Webber, Donald Lloyd and Thomas Hughes coming second.
The top eight teams are currently having a three-week single-knockout playoff to determine Monday night champions.
The closing Martin & Walters is set for March 24 and is open to members and non members alike and is a fun way to end the curling season so call me at 354-7138 if you have questions about the event.
Participants may enter as an individual or as a team, just indicate on the signup sheet by looking for vacancies and placing your name in the position you usually play.
NDCC’s closing general meeting is on March 25 at 1 p.m. There are five positions of the 12 needing filling and a major renovation endeavour to discuss and pass so the board can carry on over the summer months getting ready for the 2018-19 curling season.
