Congratulations are in order for the team of Walter Genereux, Doug Pennell, Robert Hough and Phil Berry on their winning both their games and making it to the prize table at the Garrison Curling Club’s Senior Rocking Chair Bonspiel.

All area clubs have bonspiels the same as NDCC so members are asked to check the bulletin boards and the club web sites to find one their team would like to participate in.

The CurlON Grandmasters (over 70) zone playdowns held last Monday and Friday had four teams competing for a spot in the Provincials in March in Thornhill, Ontario.

Teams from Cataraqui, Trenton and our club played games on both days with local rink Chris Coleman, Hugh Sharpe, Brian Hobin, Jaan Lees winning the finals on Friday. Congratulations gentlemen.

NDCC members are asked to watch for the sign up sheet for the refresher training and skips training (strategy) on the bulletin board being held Jan. 7 at 1 p.m.

With the year winding down, here’s a list of some first draw league winners, starting with Monday Night Men’s ‘A’ winner Mark Dunham, Paul McDonald, Steve Kapusta and Austin Dunham, followed closely by Jim Stapley, Kevin MacLean, Stephen Paul and Darrell Pritchard.

‘B’ winner was Ian Munro, Brian Hobin, Mark Taylor and Andy Graham with John Quackenbush, Barton MacLean, Rob Moffatt and David Ball coming second.

These two teams plus Gail Johnson, Donna Poirier, Loiuse VanHeighten and  Cathy Palmer move up to ‘A’ division for the second draw while three teams from ‘A’ move down to ‘B’ for the next half of the season.

The Thursday night men had  Ian Munro, Bill Hume, Rob Moffatt and Dan Fleury making the winners circle with eight straight wins followed by Scott Webber, Paul McDonald, Bert Kea and Don Weir coming in second place.

This January NDCC will be again hosting its Novice League, being held on Sunday evenings for eight weeks.

This is a lot of fun for members of the community who wish to try curling but are hesitant to join a league already in progress. The rules are simple, only the instructors and assistants have curling experience while all participants are new to the sport of curling.

Anyone interested will find info on the club’s website www.ndcc.ca and watch for an ad in this paper.

Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. See you on the ice in 2018!
