Nine-year-old Owen Hewett collected a personal best in winter gear this year, making his biggest donation yet to the Morningstar Mission.

On Thursday he dropped off $4,192 worth of boots, gloves, mitts, coats and parkas to the Mission, all of which he purchased at a 25 per cent discount from Napanee’s Giant Tiger. This marked the seventh straight year Hewett has organized a fundraiser that began when he was just three-years-old. He was inspired to help when, after refusing to wear his own gloves, he was reminded that some kids didn’t have gloves of their own. From that day forward he’s been on a quest to do his part to help those in need keep warm through the frigid Canadian winters. With the cost of everything increasing, more families than ever are expected to need a little extra help over the next few months.

Over those seven years he’s collected over $10,000 worth of clothing for the Mission.

This year over 70 friends and family helped towards the cause, including the Kingston Frontenacs who donated their own merchandise.

Clayton Flooring also made a sizeable donation, contributing $1,000 to the cause.
