Napanee’s Catherine Hernandez’s Scarborough wins Best Adapted Screenplay at Canadian Screen Awards

Napanee’s Catherine Hernandez’s novel turned film Scarborough continues to rack up the awards and critical acclaim. 

Hernandez earned Best Adapted Screenplay at the Canadian Screen Awards, one of eight awards bestowed on the film during Canadian Screen Week, making it the most awarded film of the event.

Scarborough, which celebrated its world premiere at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, has received critical praise and retains a perfect score of 100 per cent Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

Based on the 2022 Canada Reads runner-up novel of the same name by Hernandez, Scarborough was also honoured with: Best Motion Picture, Achievement in Casting (Shasha Nakhai, Rich Williamson), Achievement in Direction (Shasha Nakhai, Rich Williamson), Achievement in Sound Editing (Kyrstin Hunter, Paul Germann, Stefana Fratila), Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role (Liam Diaz) and Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role (Cherish Violet Blood).
