On Friday March 1, 2024, Kingston based band the Wilderness will be performing at Doghouse Studios in Napanee, with support from local youth band, Third Time’s a Charm.

The two bands got involved with each other through the Wilderness’ saxophonist, Nick Lennox, who was working with Harmony Lounge & Music Club, a not-for-profit organization based in Napanee that provides music lessons, coaching, and mentorship opportunities to students aged 12-16 with the aim of encouraging students to pursue further advancement in music education and in the music industry. Lennox, a music teacher by progression, began working with Harmony as a coach in November of 2023, valuing the opportunity to blend his two professional lives; as a teacher and as a working musician.

When the Wilderness began planning a show at Doghouse Studios in Napanee, it was an easy choice to approach Harmony to source a support act for the show.

“Having one of the Harmony Lounge and Music Club’s sponsored bands open for the Wilderness at an arts hub like Doghouse is a big win for our Rock Skool and the growing youth music scene in Napanee,” said Michelle Hauser, communications and PR for Harmony Lounge and Music Club Rock Skool. “One of my challenges has been connecting Harmony’s more aspirational musicians to industry mentors. Members of TTC have paid it forward to their younger peers by teaching in our program and mentoring in our Rock Skool, and it’s nice to see an established band pay it forward to them.”

The Wilderness know very well the process of growing and developing as a young band. They have come a long way since they formed in 2015; from carefree young musicians to now owning and operating their own recording studio, Evergreen Recording Co., where they will be producing a five song EP for Third Times a Charm. Taking on a mentorship role with Harmony was a fitting step in this journey. The Wilderness are getting ready to release their upcoming album, Strangers I Used to Love – an ode to growing up and an example of their artistic maturity as a band. This show marks the first in the Wilderness’ Strangers I Used to Love tour, in promotion of their upcoming album that is set to be released on April 12, 2024.
