Some of the best public works drivers from across Ontario will meet at Greater Napanee’s Strathcona Paper Centre on Sept. 28 to take part in the Association of Ontario Roads Supervisors’ Roadeo.

Just as the name may imply, the event will feature public works drivers competing in challenges designed to showcase their driving skills-think rodeo only it’s on the road and municipal drivers take the place of cowboys showing off their skills while trucks take the place of steers. This provincial meet will see the best of the best, as the participants will have advanced from Roadeos within their local associations.

According to the AORS website, “The Roadeo promotes safety, courtesy and professional public works driving skills in a challenging competition.”

Lennox and Addington County will work with the AORS to host the event. L&A County is part of District 8, one of the largest local associations in the province with over 100 municipalities that stretch from the Prescott area to Quinte West.

The purpose of this event is to promote safety, develop driving skills and provide the contestants an opportunity to gain individual recognition and personal achievement.  The event will also have approximately 22 vendors showcasing new and current equipment, along with new products.  A fun and educational day is planned for the contestants, their guests and dignitaries. The public is welcome to attend this free municipal event.
