Napanee man charged with impaired driving following a tip from alert citizen

Officers of the Lennox and Addington OPP have charged a male with impaired driving thanks to an alert citizen.

On Nov. 11, 2023, at approximately 10:55 p.m., L&A OPP was dispatched to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver at the Napanee falls parking lot. An alert member of the public noticed a male drinking in the parking lot and threw a bunch of beer cans out. Police located the vehicle and stopped it on Thomas Street and Fourth Street, in Napanee. The driver was subsequently arrested without incident.

As a result of this investigation, L&A County OPP has charged a 51-year-old of Greater Napanee, Ontario, with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on Nov. 28, 2023. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days

Impaired driving is the No. 1 cause of criminal death in Canada and, yet, every impaired driving crash is preventable. By calling 911 and reporting suspected impaired drivers to police, all Canadians can play a role in keeping our roads, trails and waterways safe and in reducing impaired driving crashes, deaths and injuries.
