The Napanee AFW Express are off to a strong start at the U19 Men’s Canadian Fast Pitch Championships, as they posted a 9-0 over Quebec in their opening game at the Napanee Fairgrounds.

Tucker Firth cranked a solo home run in the third to get the scoring going, part of a two run inning. Napanee tacked on four in the fourth and three more in the fifth to secure the shortened victory.

James Martell and Firth led the way with two RBI while Brendan Hagerman, Kael Fredenburgh and Andrew Tucker each drove in one.

Riley Manion earned the win, striking out six over four innings while Connor Brooks pitched a scoreless fifth inning.

There was a bit of a scare in the fourth inning when Quebec shortstop Isaac Lefebvre collided with left fielder Julien Fournier while attempting to catch a pop up. Both players left the game, while Lefebvre appeared to take the worst of it and was tended to by a paramedic in the team’s dugout.

Napanee’s next game is tentatively scheduled for 6:30 p.m. tonight, though the tournament was a bit behind schedule. Opening ceremonies are scheduled for 6 p.m., though they too could be delayed.
