MP Sloan announces $700,000 in federal funds for Hastings-Lennox Addington for Canada Summer Jobs Programs

The 2020 Canada Summer Jobs Program will provide $700,000 in federal funding to assist in the creation of youth employment positions across Hastings-Lennox and Addington.

Local MP Derek Sloan announced the funding in a release on Thursday. Currently over 70 employers are set to receive funding with the potential for additional funding to be dispersed locally. According to the release, the 2020 CSJ Program will help create close to 200 jobs, creating over 47,000 person-hours of employment, which is equal to 1,383 full-time weeks of work across Hastings-Lennox and Addington.

“The Canada Summer Jobs Program has become an essential form of funding assistance for local employers, taking on an even greater importance in 2020 as we begin to reopen the economy after the COVID-19 crisis,” Sloan said in a release. “Businesses have been under intense pressure due to the quarantine and lockdown situations, and hopefully the CSJ funding we are receiving locally will assist many of our local businesses in getting back up to full steam and providing vital services to their customer base across the region.”

The CSJ Program aims to provide flexible and holistic services to support all young Canadians develop the skills and gain paid work experience to successfully transition to the labour market.
