Motorcycle crash leads to numerous charges for Napanee man

On May 20 at approximately 8:30 p.m. officers of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Dundas Street W in Greater Napnaee.

Investigation revealed that a motorcycle accelerated on Dundas Street and lost control coming to rest against a fence. The licence plates attached to the vehicle did not belong to the owner. The lone driver fled on foot and police located the driver a short time later with minor injuries. The driver was taken to hospital and later released.

As a result of the investigation, L&A County OPP have charged  a 36-year-old man of Greater Napanee with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, refusal to comply with breath demand and possession of Property obtained by Crime under $5,000.

The accused was further charged contrary to the Highway Traffic Act with drive motor vehicle – improper licence, careless driving, fail to remain at the scene of an accident, operate unsafe vehicle, and use plate not authorized for vehicle.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on July 28. The accused person’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
