Born in Coldwater to Robert and Edna Locking, Helen’s father worked on the railroad, relocating his family to various small, southern Ontario towns including Wellington and finally Ernestown. Helen reached young adulthood while living in the Station Master’s house at the Ernestown train station. “I’m not going to marry a darned farmer” was her mantra. Then she spotted handsome, shy Don across the dance floor and bravely asked him to dance. Helen and Don Morrow were married in St. John’s Anglican Church, Bath, in 1944.
Both were devoted church members and Helen’s lovely voice graced the choir for many years. They lived happily on their farm on the shores of Lake Ontario near Bath, celebrating 70 wedding anniversaries. Helen loved the beautiful house that Don built for her. After the arrival of their sons, Helen’s new mantra, that lasted her lifetime, became “my three wonderful boys”. Some of the last words she spoke were “My wonderful boys. I love you.”
Thank you to the wonderful staff at both the Riverine and the John M Parrott Centre. Special thanks to Kim Rogers for her caring devotion to Helen.
In lieu of flowers, donations to her dear St. John’s Anglican Church, Bath, would be greatly appreciated.
