Millhaven inmate charged with second degree murder following fatal assault of fellow inmate

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)-led Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad has charged a suspect following a homicide at Millhaven Institution near Kingston.

On Jan. 8 the Penitentiary Squad responded after the Correctional Service of Canada reported that an inmate had been located with life-threatening injuries. Victor James, age 29, was later pronounced deceased.

On Jan. 10,  Stanton David, currently an inmate at Millhaven Institution, was charged with second degree murder.

The accused has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Napanee on Jan. 26, 2023.

The investigation, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, has been conducted in conjunction with the Correctional Services of Canada and the Office of the Chief Coroner and Forensic Pathology Service.
