Midget Express split first two games at Nationals in PEI

The Napanee Express Midget team will take on Chepstow in the finals.

The Napanee AFW Construction Midget Express are 1-1 after the first day of round robin play at the U18 Fastpitch Canadian Championship in O’Leary, PEI.

They opened the tournament this morning with a 3-2 win over the host PEI team thanks to RBIs from James Martell and Brendan Hagerman. Brighton Marcell picked up the win with three innings of relief work. Riley Manion closed out the game, striking out nine batters in three innings.

In their second game a two run shot from Mac Mulvey brought the Express to within one run but they were unable to complete the comeback, losing 5-4 to Saskatchewan. Hagerman drove in a pair while Kael Fredenburgh chipped in with one. Manion took the loss, giving up five runs on eight hits while striking out 12. The Napanee Express will next be in action at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow when they take on Saskatchewan’s second team, followed by a game at 3:30 p.m. against Newfoundland.
