Impaired boater charged by Napanee OPP

On Aug. 12 at approximately 4:48 p.m. officers from the OPP Napanee Detachment  responded to a call for a missing male who fell off his Sea-Doo. The driver and his passenger fell off their vessel into Lake Ontario, near Bath when they hit a large wave and high winds.

Both the male driver and the female passenger were wearing their personal floatation devices. The female passenger was able to get back on the Sea-Doo but could not start it.  The female was picked up by a nearby boater and taken to shore.

OPP Marine Officers and the Coast Guard searched for the male who was later found at the boat launch after he swam to shore.  Investigation revealed that the operator of the vessel had been consuming alcohol.

The driver, a 33 year old Amherstview man, has been charged with:

Operate Vessel with more than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood contrary to the Criminal Code.

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear with the first court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Napanee on Aug. 29.
